Worship 0

wor·ship
ˈwərSHəp/

noun:  the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity.  "the worship of God"
verb:   show reverence and adoration for (a deity); honor with religious rites.  "Come and worship the Creator."

It's what we do.  From the beginning of time, we humans have always worshipped.  Even those who refuse to acknowledge the God who revealed himself to Adam, to Abraham, and finally through Jesus, those who insist there is some other god or even no god at all, worship something.

For us who know "I Am", as he revealed his name to Moses, worship is above all an expression of thanksgiving and amazement at his infinite love and grace, yet his care for all he has created.

Mission 0

Our mission at Woodbury Presbyterian Church is to make growing disciples of Jesus who:

  • ADORE God through powerful, Spirit-filled worship
  • CARE for others through acts of compassionate service
  • TEACH believers how to become more faithful disciples of Jesus
  • INVOLVE people in a fellowship of Christ-like love
  • OFFER God's gift of
  • NEW LIFE in Christ to our community and the world and are
  • STEWARDS with a passion

Adore Ministry 2

The Adore Ministry provides the church with opportunities to use their talents and passions to worship God is the mission of the Adore team.

Planning and helping to lead the weekly worship services is only just a part of this, but there is so much more. Adore provides instruction on worship, prayer and praise and helps create a worshipful atmosphere within the church, especially during seasonal celebrations such as Easter and Christmas.

Care Ministry 3

The Care Team helps connect the church body with opportunities to share God's love.

People within the church, as well as Woodbury's neighbors, experience the love of Christ as their needs are met with kindness and caring.

Teach Ministry 0

Growing disciples who know Jesus and learning about God's love, is what the Teach ministry seeks to promote.

Whether a small child in a Sunday School class, a college student wanting to know more, or an adult taking an ACTION Academy course, Woodbury has many opportunities for members and others to learn more about God, and to teach others about being a disciple of Jesus.

Personal study 2

Jesus' followers in the New Testament (Talmidim in Hebrew) submitted and committed themselves to closely following Him, imitating Him and learning from Him in all possible ways.  They came to Jesus already being well-studied in the Hebrew scriptures (what we know as the Old Testament in our Bible).  They left their homes and families to be with Jesus.

In like manner today, Jesus calls us to be his disciples, submitting to his discipline.

This includes careful study of the scriptures, which contain the Word of God.

It also includes living like Him as much as possible, following Jesus in trusting God with our lives, loving others, being generous to others

Involve Ministry 3

Being involved in a fellowship of Christ's love is just a part of the mission of the Involve Team.

By planning events, such as dinners, and coordinating small groups, this team provides connection points and encourages Woodbury members and visitors to gather together in love.

Offer New Life 1

The Offer New Life Team really does what its name implies – members really do offer a new life in Jesus Christ to others through activities such as supporting missionaries and missions trips (both locally and internationally), teaching evangelism, and helping to welcome guests.

Steward 3

One of the church's most vital teams is that of the Stewardship Team.

Members of this team work tirelessly to support the other ACTION ministry teams in their efforts, and are responsible for the business functions and other operations of the church.

So, from helping maintain the buildings and grounds, to making sure the bills are paid, this team makes certain that Woodbury is indeed God's Love in ACTION.

About ECO 1

As recorded in Matthew 28:18-20, when Jesus was about to return to our Father, he gave his disciples this instruction (we know as "the Great Commission"):  "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

ECO (A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians) is a new denomination formed mostly of Presbyterians who have sought a denominational context supporting a greater emphasis on Jesus' Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-18), "Go

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Ignite! Is Coming 7

ignite-logoIgnite! is coming to Woodbury

March 27-28, 2015 (Fri evening through Sat afternoon)

Introducing Ignite!

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

The heart of God our Father has been to redeem all men and women, boys and girls, to himself through Jesus His Son.  Yet we often find ourselves challenged in sharing with our family and neighbors at work, home, play about Jesus and His love and redeeming work for us.  God has provided His Holy Spirit to work in people\'s hearts, to prepare the way for the right time and the right way for us to speak, and to prepare us.  How then are we to recognize that and move gracefully in what has been called a "dance of cooperation with the Holy Spirit"?

Woodbury is hosting a weekend event with two experienced teachers to help us learn and become comfortable with this "dance" with the Holy Spirit, to experience His empowerment in us to fulfill the Great Commission that Jesus gave us, His disciples.

What do I do?

  • Register - Click here.  All are welcome.

1 John Sudy 15

1 John:  Go Deeper In Christ

Sincere Christians universally want to “go deeper” in faith and knowledge of the Scripture. With this in mind, we wanted to create a Bible study that would be exegetically strong and focused on personal spiritual vitality. For a variety of reasons, 1 John fits the bill. The subject matter is simple and straightforward: truth (right doctrine), obedience (right living), and love (right relationships). The cyclical structure of the book invites deeper reflection on these themes. And the letter’s original purpose was to strengthen and assure new believers.

But spiritual depth isn’t simply about knowledge (a common misconception), but about everyday life and relationships. And where better to begin than reflecting on how to have deeper joy in Christ?

To know deep, lasting joy, we have to truly know Christ.

This study is divided into 8 sessions.  Each session, listed below, has 3 parts:

  • Identify the Issue
  • 3 Teaching Points
  • Apply Your Findings

The sessions are:

  • Deep Joy
  • Deep Walk
  • Deep Clean
  • Deep Desire
  • Deep Truth
  • Deep Hope
  • Deep Love
  • Deep Certainty

This is adapted from ChristianBibleStudies.com and is for use only for members of Woodbury Presbyterian Church

Apologetics 2

a·pol·o·get·ics
əˌpäləˈjetiks/
noun

  • reasoned arguments or writings in justification of something, typically a theory or religious doctrine.

    From Wikipedia

Apologetics (from Greek ἀπολογία, "speaking in defense") is the discipline of defending a position (often religious) through the systematic use of information. Early Christian writers (c. 120–220) who defended their faith against critics and recommended their faith to outsiders were called apologists.[1]

These are a collection of articles intended to provide food for thought concerning the existence of God.

"Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD:...", as recorded in Isaiah 18.  Even when discussing the problem of sin that disconnects us from him, God appeals to our reason, not to a blind "leap of faith".  In fact, the chapter on faith, Hebrews 11, speaks in rational terms about that which we rely on to base our ilfe and actions in Someone unseen.
